The 2018 KIAA-PKU Astrophysics Forum

“China's Future Ground-Based Astronomical Facilities”

December 3-4, 2018

Kavli Institute for Astronomy and AstrophysicsPeking University

Chinese astronomy still lacks modern observing facilities, but this situation will soon change thanks to the great efforts of the community. In the next 5-10 years, we expect to see a rapid development of ground-based facilities, including 6-12m class general-purpose telescopes, 1-4m class large-field survey telescopes and time-domain telescopes. Meanwhile, we will also see a significant development of millimeter, sub-millimeter, and radio facilities.

The theme for this year's KIAA-PKU Astrophysics Forum is “China's Future Ground-Based Astronomical Facilities”. In the forum, colleagues from major astronomical institutes will introduce their future telescopes and facilities that are being planned or constructed. We will also have extensive discussions on relevant science and technology. We encourage the Chinese astronomy community to actively participate in the forum. The forum will provide a platform for collaborations between individuals and institutions.

Topics to be covered in the forum include:

  • Future ground-based facilities

  • Science goals and collaborations

  • Technical requirements and collaborations

  • Collaborations between institutions and different projects

  • Observatory sites
